We are currently seeking an EDM Operator. The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail and computer skills. They will ensure completeness of required job information prior to cutting operation. Must be able to perform predictive and preventative maintenance on departmental equipment according to schedule or instructions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate EDM machines to perform machining operations according to engineering specifications, blueprints, or work orders.
  • Select appropriate electrodes, tools, and materials based on the job requirements.
  • Install and secure workpieces onto the EDM machine, ensuring proper alignment and positioning.
  • Program the EDM machine using computer numerical control (CNC) software or manually input instructions for the desired machining operations.
  • Monitor the EDM process, including the discharge spark, material removal, and electrode wear, to ensure accurate and efficient operations.
  • Adjust machine settings and parameters, such as current, voltage, and electrode feed rate, as needed to optimize machining performance.
  • Conduct quality checks on machined parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers) to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during the EDM process, such as electrode breakage, tool wear, or material deformation.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on the EDM machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn components.
  • Collaborate with engineers or programmers to optimize machining processes, improve efficiency, and achieve desired results.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in machining or CNC programming is preferred.
  • 2 - 3 years' experience operating EDM machines.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, or technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles and EDM processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity for precise handling of electrodes and workpieces.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during the machining process.
  • Basic computer skills for machine programming and data entry.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety protocols and maintaining a clean working environment.

PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Charmilles sinker EDM training
  • Experience running CAD, CAM, & Angie software applications
